The decree of April 10, 2019 formalized the date of April 24 as a day of commemoration, never to forget the massacres perpetrated by the Ottoman Empire against the Armenian population from 1915 onwards. On that day, almost 600 Armenian intellectuals were arrested by the Ottoman authorities in Constantinople, before being deported or murdered. That fateful day marked the beginning of a genocide that resulted in the deaths of over a million people.
